On March 11, the Alliance for Fertility Preservation brought together a group of adult and pediatric oncologists, reproductive endocrinologists, patients, advocates, and healthcare leaders in Ohio to discuss the crucial role of fertility preservation in cancer care. Worth the Wait was honored to help plan the event at The Ohio State University.
Here are some highlights of the event:
- Not enough young cancer patients in Ohio have access to fertility preservation that’s covered by their health insurance.
- Worth the Wait, healthcare providers and advocates want to collaborate with legislators to ensure this essential service is accessible and covered by insurance for Ohioans facing cancer.
- Local leaders like Doug Ulman, Vice Chair of Pelotonia and Dr. David Cohn, interim CEO of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute attended and expressed their support.
- Survivor, Mike Scherer, was on the policy forum panel with Dr. Mindy Christianson, Olivia Frias and Mary Caldwell, and he shared how fertility preservation is a social justice issue.
- Patient Annie Swanson and her husband Jason and Worth the Wait grant recipient Brad Noble shared their stories of fertility preservation.
We were thrilled to see Worth the Wait grant recipients Kat J. and Jordan P. and loved how they were able to share their personal stories too.
We remain hopeful that together, we can address this social justice issue in Ohio.
