Worth the Wait grant recipient Melissa de Gant bravely shared her story about fertility preservation in a Wall Street Journal article.
“Melissa de Gant discovered the lump in her breast during a routine self-exam. Just 29 years old at the time and otherwise healthy, de Gant wasn’t initially concerned. Still, she brought it up to her primary care physician during a routine appointment. He referred de Gant for imaging, and a biopsy followed. That’s when she received the news that would change her life: She had Stage 1 breast cancer.
“It was really scary,” de Gant, now 30, says of the unexpected diagnosis.”
