Advocating at ASCO 2025

Worth the Wait was honored to attend and exhibit at ASCO’s Annual Meeting in the ASCO-sponsored patient advocacy area for the third year in a row. Mike Scherer, Megan Scherer and volunteer Annie Swanson, attended and advocated for oncofertility.

What’s ASCO?

The ASCO Annual Meeting is one of the most significant global conferences in oncology, hosted by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). It brings together researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, and industry leaders to discuss the latest advancements in cancer treatment, research, and patient care.

Why do we attend?

We attend as patient advocates. We have conversations with anyone who will listen about why fertility preservation counseling and family building options must be presented to young cancer patients at diagnosis and throughout survivorship. Our booth is in a large area with other national nonprofits so we get lots of traffic from oncologists, nurse practitioners, advocates and researchers from around the world.

What were the highlights?

  • Talking with patients (many are physicians, scientists or in training) at our booth and hearing their personal fertility and cancer stories.
  • Connecting with nonprofit peers who encourage and inspire us.
  • Meeting with industry partners who took the time to learn how they can most meaningfully support our mission.
  • Learning how AI will improve cancer research and care.
  • And we can’t not mention sampling the over-the-top food stands at the industry booths. (So many Affogatos this year!)
